If possible, please feed baby about 20-30 minutes before arrival. We want to make sure your baby is very full. If you are driving a long distance to reach me, please let me know. You are welcome to arrive early and nurse/ feed your baby in my studio before your session. (This must be coordinated before your session). We will take breaks during the session so you can feed your little. Your baby's comfort is my number 1 priority.
When you arrive, please leave your baby in his/ her carseat. I can help you remove your baby from their carseat so they stay asleep.
Sessions can take up to 4 hours, so I have created a large area for you to relax in. (Please feel free to bring a snack and/or lunch.) You are welcome to relax or help out. If you would like to help out and have had a c-section, please let me know so I can ensure you are comfortable the entire time. My goal is for you to enjoy your session, while getting pictures you will love and cherish.
Please plan on it being very hot. Babies sleep better in the heat. I will have a space heater on and my heat will be raised to78- 80 degrees to encourage the baby to sleep. This means it can get pretty warm for grownups. Please dress accordingly. If you are having family pictures, you are welcome to change towards the end of the session. If you would like parent, family, or sibling pictures, they are taken at the end of the session.
If possible, please make sure you bring extra (expressed) milk / formula. If the baby wakes up, we will want to give your baby milk/formula so they will fall back asleep. Sometimes moms milk hasn’t completely come in yet. This will help the baby have a full tummy and sleep for the session. If you prefer to nurse during your session, there will be plenty of time for this. Please bring more milk/ formula and diapers than you think you will need.
**If you are nursing, please watch what you eat at least 24 hours before your session. Gassy babies do not like to lay on their tummies. This can make your session longer.**
If your baby uses a pacifier, please bring one.
There is no need to bring special clothing to the session. Most poses will be done in wraps, handmade outfits, or in the nude. Newborn clothes usually don’t fit properly. The baby ends up swimming in the clothing. Don’t worry about it unless you have something you really want photographed.
If siblings will be included in your session, please plan on having someone bring them towards the end of the session. Newborn sessions can be long. A lot of times it is hard for older children to entertain themselves for 2-4 hours. If it is not possible to bring them later in the session, I do have a small park behind my studio that they are welcome to play at (with adult supervision).
" I found Leah through my girlfriend who just recently had twins and upon seeing her photos I knew I wanted Leah to photograph my sweet baby who was due in December. The photos turned out absolutely beautiful! Throughout the shoot I kept thinking "She is a baby whisperer!" She just had a way to calm him, keeping him sleepy and happy through the entire shoot! Throughout the years our family has used several photographers to capture our memories and I will never use another photographer again. Leah is absolutely amazing!" ~Meghan Howard --
